Season one of True Detective written by Nic Pizzolatto and directed by Cary Fukunaga is as close to a perfect symphony of a Detective drama and an existentialist think piece as we are likely to see for awhile.  Rustin “Rust” Cohle in my opinion takes his place among some of greatest TV characters ever conceived. The season, with a script as lean as a fitness model and backwoods gothic set pieces that threatened to overtake reality with the other-worldly was really something to behold.

Season two…not so much. Like I said before, pretty much all I got from that second entry was that Rachel McAdams looked darn good in those jeans.

This brings us to Season 3. A trailer is out…let’s have a gander.

“I wanna know the whole story”

Hmn, I don’t know, it looks like they are dialing the scope back and focusing on a specific crime. If they can play this straight, leave out any vile politics (I don’t want hear jack squat about race or racism from anyone in this show) and have some creepy elements this might actually be worth giving a shot.

We shall see.

True Detective Season 3 starring Mahershala Ali starts up again in January.
