Sci-fi comedy Alpha Gang has assembled quite an impressive cast, including Sofia Boutella (Kingsmen: The Secret Service), Mackenzie Davis (Terminator: Dark Fate), Jon Hamm (Baby Driver), Charlotte Gainsbourg (Independence Day: Resurgence), Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road), Andrea Riseborough (Mandy) and Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead). A project by the sibling filmmaking team of David and Nathan Zellner, Alpha Gang follows a group of extra-terrestrial covert operatives sent to invade our planet. However, on Earth, they start developing emotions like fear, empathy, and love. According to Variety, producers will present the project to potential backers at the next week’s Cannes market. Filming will take place in 2021.
If you haven’t heard about the Zellner brothers, that’s understandable. Until now, the brothers have mostly produced indie movies, albeit interesting and well-received ones. In 2018 they directed a western comedy Damsel featuring Robert Pattinson (Tenet) and Mia Wasikowska (Crimson Peak) in lead roles. And in 2014 they made Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter, inspired by an urban legend about a Japanese office worker (played by Rinko Kikuchi – Pacific Rim) who travels to North Dakota to find money hidden by Steve Buscemi’s character in Coen Brothers’ 1996 film Fargo.
