Could they have possibly continued this series without veering off into the underbrush? I doubt it.
Some narratives…most actually, have a finite lifespan (a beginning, a middle, and an end). They convey an idea or message like the final rasping words of wisdom
from a passing sage on their deathbed. Once delivered, these profound and venerated individuals are to be put to rest deep beneath the earth while their
message is fondly passed down from generation to generation.
These sequels, reboots, remakes are the equivalent of someone digging up this wise old sage and dragging their carcass around shoving
it in people’s faces asking them if they “want to hear what they had to say again?”. The sage being stone cold dead has no input on the situation so
the maniac who dug them up must perform a bizarre and horrific ventriloquist act trying desperately to relay (usually poorly) the message and capture the poignancy of the original event.
Those folks who do not suffer from the same, sad inability to let go of the past as the grave robber hold their hand to their nose and beg with the utmost
sincerity, that the perpetrator please…stop.
That being said…the prank video was pretty funny.
The Rings is directed by F. Javier Gutierrez (also an executive producer of the upcoming The Crow remake/reboot…yay)
with a cast that includes: Matilda Lutz, Alex Roe, Johnny Galecki, Aimee Teegarden, Bonnie Morgan and Vincent D’Onofrio (really Vincent? Really?)
The Rings will be crawling out of theater screens Feb 3 2017
