AVClub reports actress Neve Campbell will reprise her performance as the final girl Sidney Prescott in the latest Scream sequel. Back in August, we reported Courtney Cox would return as well, while David Arquette was already attached.
In early 2019, Blumhouse Productions expressed interest in this project. Kevin Williamson, who wrote scripts for all Scream movies, is on board but only as an executive producer. Guy Busick (Ready or Not) and James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) will write the script. Radio Silence – filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett – will direct the movie. This creative duo has several successful projects behind them, with the most recent being the 2019 satirical horror-comedy Ready or Not, starring Samara Weaving and co-written by Busick.
The fifth Scream film has been in the works for almost a decade now. Back in 2011, legendary director Wes Craven confirmed he would work on a fifth and sixth Scream movie. The fourth film came out that year, but Craven died in 2015. Subsequently, the project stalled. The success of the recent Halloween sequel signaled there might be money yet in the Scream franchise even though it is presently almost 25 years old.
