Netflix has released an Official trailer for its upcoming series The Defenders.
The show is a culmination of the Marvel/Netflix shows Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist much like the Avengers movies are culminations of the Marvel solo films in the MCU. Admittedly, I’ve found the Netflix bunch (with the exception of Daredevil) to be a tad…disappointing. They opted to go super-hero light as opposed to say the DC TV universe, which goes super-hero hard. I prefer super-hero hard. When it comes to super-hero tales my motto is that you are either in for a penny, in for a pound.
Half measures…just seem to be a waste of everyone’s time.
But we shall see.
There were a few good dialogue moments (particularly from Kristen Ritter (Jessica Jones) and Charlie Cox (Daredevil/Matt Murdock) ). My one chief concern (in addition to desaturation) are the stakes. The quality of a superhero story is highly dependent on the quality of the villain. I did not get any sense of peril or grave danger from the trailer.
For this to work, the bad guys are going to have to knock our socks off.
All episodes of Marvel’s The Defenders will be streaming your way this August on Netflix.
