Last time we wrote about the Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series, producers were looking to cast young Luke Skywalker. Three weeks later, the series has been put on hold. Collider reports that the crew assembled at Pinewood Studios in London was sent home last week. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy wasn’t happy with the scripts by Hossein Amini (Drive), finding them far too similar to The Mandalorian.
Ewan McGregor was to reprise his performance as Obi-Wan Kenobi he portrayed in the prequel trilogy. Naturally, journalists immediately reached out to him for comment. According to GeekTyrant, McGregor said the situation wasn’t as dire as it seems, claiming the shooting of the show will start early next year as opposed to this summer. Kennedy is interested in having the best scripts possible before filming of the series.
This is just the latest production problem LucasArts has had with one of the world’s most profitable franchises. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was extensively rewritten and reworked during filming. Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller exited Solo: A Star Wars Story in the middle of production, to be replaced by Ron Howard. When Solo came out, it wasn’t a successful as Disney hoped, causing the cancellation of other stand-alone Star Wars movies… including the one about Obi-Wan Kenobi.
