Joe Taslim tagged as Sub-Zero for New Line’s Mortal Kombat
Martial artist Joe Taslim (The Raid, Fast & Furious 6) will be playing Sub-Zero, the fighter with a frosty bite, in the live-action adaptation of the popular video game series Mortal Kombat. Atomic Monster (James Wan’s production company) will be producing with Simon McQuoid directing. The film starts shooting in southern Australia later this year.
I suppose the one good thing going for another Mortal Kombat film is that the effects should look better…maybe.
Netflix Renews The Society
The Society is one of those shows that is so laughably bad that it is actually fun to watch.
The story is about a group of teenagers in a town that find themselves cut-off from the rest of the world as well as any adults essentially leaving them in a situation where they have to fend for themselves. The first hilarious thing to happen was that the class President, a girl named Cassandra, is put in charge of everyone. The second hilarious thing that happened…was everything that followed.
The bulk of the straight white males are written to be nothing but blocks of wood while the minorities are portrayed as intelligent, wise, noble, (insert positives adjectives ad infinitum). The two white males that aren’t portrayed as mindless lumps or racists just happen to be Gay.
I’m not making this up.
It took the show 10 episodes before it came to the conclusion that in this type of situation a group of males weren’t going to be bossed around by a female if they didn’t want to be. A conclusion they should have come to in the first episode.
It’s almost as if the people writing this show do not live on planet earth. I noticed that there were a few black males and females in the crowd. Anyone who has a functioning brain cell and has went to school with blacks knows that in a high-school or junior high setting blacks are aggressive and dominant…it’s kind of like prison that way. The idea that they would be sitting on the sidelines or hidden in the shadows is beyond ridiculous. The very first thing that would happen once the adults were out of the picture and they truly believed they were on their own would be an immediate contest for dominance between the black males and white males.
The idea that a white female would have superseded this dynamic is, well, pure friggen fantasy.
Now that we have that cleared up…Netflix has renewed this silly show for a second season. I can hardly wait to start yelling at the TV again.
Disney Craps On Grieving Father’s Wish
Ollie Jones died of Leukodystrophy in December at the age of 4. His father Lloyd Jones asked Disney for permission to put an etching of Spider-Man, Ollie’s favorite super-hero character, on his head stone. Disney basically told him to get bent.
Why, you might ask?
From the Disney permissions department:
“We extend our sincere condolences. If we played a small part in Ollie’s happiness we are honoured. ‘Generations of fans have responded to our characters with the same wonder and delight that Ollie did. In fact, many believe the characters to be real.
We have striven to preserve the same innocence and magic around our characters that brought Ollie such joy.
For that reason, we follow a policy that began with Walt Disney himself that does not permit the use of characters on headstones, cemetery or other memorial markers or funeral urns.
Although we cannot grant the family’s request, we would be pleased to commemorate your nephew with a hand-inked, hand-painted, personalized cel that recognises his love for Spider-Man, which will read:
For your ——- (nephew’s name), Thank you for letting us share in the magic of your life. Your friends at the Walt Disney Company.
We feel privileged to have had him as a fan. [sic]”
Innocence and magic indeed.
Lloyd Jones seemed to have summed up the organization correctly with this quote to metro.
“I think this is all about money.
Ollie’s last holiday was at Disneyland. He loved Spider-Man and we had bought him all the toys.
Now he has died and we won’t be spending any more money, they don’t care”
A petition was created asking for Disney to reverse the ban. It currently has over 11,000 signatures.
If there was ever an occasion to make an exception I would think it would be this one.
Well, you know my thoughts on Disney.
Disney is pure trash.
