Kiyoshi Kurosawa, director of films like Bright Future (2002), Pulse (2001), and The Cure (1997) latest offering (this is his twentieth film) Before We Vanish, is about an advanced alien scouting team who checks out the planet earth before signaling a massive invasion. In addition to being harbingers of our impeding doom, these space-faring visitors add the additional indignity of using human bodies as vehicles for their alien ‘essence’ and leaving barely recognizable hollow-shells of said humans after the aliens are done with them.
How rude, pass me the ammunition.
“…acclaimed horror director Kiyoshi Kurosawa reinvents the alien movie as a unique and profoundly human tale of love and mystery.“
I hope the love part of this story entails the Aliens learning not to invade other worlds and wear their inhabitants like suits.
Kinda reminds me of Takashi Miike’s work, though a little campier. Strange this guy has never buzzed my radar, at any rate, probably worth a rental.
Before We Vanish is out now.
