According to the AVClub, Army of the Dead finally has an official release date – May 21, 2021, as well as an accompanying poster. Zack Snyder — whose cut of Justice League movie is coming out to HBO Max in March — directed and co-wrote this action-horror movie for Netflix.
As we reported in the past, the plot of Army of the Dead follows a group of mercenaries and criminals as they try infiltrating a quarantine zone around Las Vegas – ground zero of a zombie outbreak. With no people around, nothing can prevent our protagonists from stealing millions of dollars in various casinos. Except for, you know, all the zombies.
Led by Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), the cast of the film includes Nora Arnezeder (Mozart in the Jungle), Garret Dillahunt (Looper), Omari Hardwick (Power), Tig Notaro (Star Trek: Discovery), Ella Purnell (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children), Ana de la Reguera (Cowboys & Aliens), Theo Rossi (Sons of Anarchy), Hiroyuki Sanada (Westworld), Matthias Schweighöfer (Kursk), and others. Netflix is also developing two other projects set in the same universe. There’s an anime series titled Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas, that will depict the initial phases of the zombie outbreak. Also, there’s a live-action prequel movie starring Matthias Schweighöfer, who will direct it as well.
