AMC just hired Academy Award-winning actor William Hurt (Altered States, Dark City, Syriana) to provide his voice for the upcoming animated TV drama Pantheon, reports SlashFilm. Hurt will voice Stephen Holstrom, the legendary billionaire genius connected with people trying to upload human consciousness to the internet.

While we can’t vouch for its quality, Pantheon certainly sounds interesting. The premise follows a bullied teen Maddie (Katie Chang – The Bling Ring) as she gets contacted online by her recently deceased father David (Daniel Dae Kim – Lost). David’s mind has been uploaded online. But he isn’t the only one, and soon enough, a global conspiracy begins to come into focus.

Most intriguingly, Pantheon isn’t a live-action series but an animated one. Its creator is Craig Silverstein (Terra Nova), who based it on a series of short stories by the Hugo Award-winning science-fiction writer Ken Liu. AMC already ordered two seasons of this prime-time drama, with eight one-hour episodes each. The voice cast includes Maude Apatow (The King of Staten Island), Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood), Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight), Rosemarie DeWitt (La La Land), Raza Jaffrey (Lost in Space), Ron Livingston (The Conjuring), Scoot McNairy (Argo), Lara Pulver (Sherlock), Taylor Schilling (Orange Is the New Black), and others.
