There’s not much I’m looking forward to movie-wise these days being the jaded old grouch that I am. But Battle Angel Alita..or Alita: Battle Angel is one of those things.
The initial appearance of Alita is a little surprising…but given the context of her existence, actually makes sense, She doesn’t look exactly human because she isn’t exactly human.
Being an uber purist I’m going to have rewatch the Anime and maybe even read the Manga to compare with the film but from what I can remember a lot of the beats are familiar…which is a good thing.
There really only is one uncertain variable to how this will turn out…and that is Rodriguez. I trust Cameron completely…but Rob…well, we’ll see. Nothing I’ve seen so far upsets me…that’s a good sign. That move where slams the guys head into the table was the swift kind of vicious action that I enjoy and is a staple in good Anime. If there is more of that I’ll be a happy camper.
For now….I remain cautiously optimistic!
Alita: Battle Angel starring Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein, Jackie Earle Haley, and Keean Johnson springs into theaters July 20, 2018
